What Is a Two-Component Automatic Potting Machine?

A two-component automatic potting machine is designed to meter, mix, and dispense two-component materials such as resin and hardener in a controlled ratio.
Compared with manual mixing and dispensing, an automated AB glue dispensing system can help manufacturers achieve more consistent material ratios, dispensing volumes, and production processes while reducing operator involvement.
The SEC-S3030-B Two-Component  Potting Machine from Second Intelligent is designed for automated two-component dispensing applications requiring continuous material supply and programmable dispensing.
The system uses independent A and B material paths. Each component is supplied separately to its metering pump before being delivered to the two-component valve and mixed at the mixing tube.

How Does the Automatic AB Glue Potting Process Work?
The SEC-S3030-B follows a straightforward production sequence:
Manual loading → Start → Automatic dispensing → Dispensing completed → Product removal
The operator places the product or fixture on the dispensing platform and starts the cycle. The three-axis system then executes the programmed dispensing path automatically.

For the two-component material itself, A and B are stored separately and delivered to independent metering pumps. Software controls the material flow before the two components reach the dispensing valve and mixing tube.
Because the two materials are mixed near the dispensing point rather than inside the storage tanks, the system is designed to simplify management of two-component materials and the cleaning process.
Key Features of the SEC-S3030-B Two-Component Potting Machine

1. Automatic 1:1 Two-Component Metering
For the configuration described in this solution, the machine is designed for a 1:1 mixing ratio.
Two 1.2 cc gear pump assemblies are used for A and B component metering, with a specified proportioning accuracy of ±3% based on a 100 g reference.
This makes the system suitable for applications where controlled and repeatable AB material delivery is required.

2. Automatic Material Feeding for High-Volume Production
For production environments consuming significant amounts of potting material, frequent manual refilling can interrupt production.
The SEC-S3030-B solution was developed around 200 kg raw-material drums and continuous high-capacity material supply.
The machine incorporates two 30 L material tanks, while the system can also support vacuum material feeding. The tank design includes liquid-level monitoring and material shortage alarms.

3. Vacuum Feeding and Degassing
Air bubbles can be an important consideration in potting processes.
The material tanks can be connected to a vacuum pump for vacuum feeding and vacuum degassing. According to the system configuration, the tank vacuum pressure can reach up to -99 kPa.
The vacuum feeding principle uses the pressure difference between the material tank and the external atmosphere to draw material into the tank automatically. A buffer tank is also incorporated to help prevent material from entering the vacuum pump in the event of overfilling or operating errors.

4. Three-Axis Automatic Dispensing
The machine incorporates a servo-driven XYZ dispensing platform with a working stroke of:
X axis: 700 mm
Y axis: 600 mm
Z axis: 100 mm
Maximum travel speeds are specified as 500 mm/s for the X/Y axes and 200 mm/s for the Z axis.
This allows the dispensing head to follow programmed paths across different products and fixtures.

5. Static Mixing at the Dispensing Point
The A and B components remain separated until they reach the dispensing assembly.
The two-component static valve and mixing tube combine the materials during dispensing. The valve specification in this solution lists an operating viscosity range of 200–30,000 cP.
For the overall SEC-S3030-B configuration, the technical parameter table specifies an operable viscosity range of 100–20,000 cP.
Note: Material compatibility should therefore be evaluated according to the actual resin/hardener properties and the final machine configuration.

Pressure Monitoring for Process Control
Stable material pressure is important for consistent dispensing.
The SEC-S3030-B includes pressure sensors for monitoring the A/B material pipelines. If pressure becomes insufficient or excessively high, the system can output an alarm signal and stop the machine.
This provides an additional monitoring layer for automated production.

Semi-Automatic Cleaning System
Two-component materials can cure inside dispensing components if the system is not properly maintained.
The SEC-S3030-B therefore includes a semi-automatic cleaning system for cleaning the two-component valve and mixing tube when the machine will remain unused for an extended period.
The appropriate cleaning agent should be selected according to the recommendations of the adhesive manufacturer.

What Applications Can Use a Two-Component Potting Machine?
An automatic two-component dispensing system can be considered when a production process requires:
● Controlled A/B material metering and mixing
● Repeatable quantitative dispensing
● Continuous material supply
● Programmable XYZ dispensing paths
● Vacuum material feeding or degassing
● Different products using dedicated fixtures

For each project, however, the final configuration should be evaluated according to the material viscosity, mixing ratio, pot life, required dispensing volume, dispensing path, cycle time, product dimensions, and production capacity.

How to Select the Right Two-Component Potting System
Before selecting an automatic potting machine, manufacturers should provide several key process parameters.
The most important information includes the TDS of both materials, A:B mixing ratio, viscosity, packaging size, pot life, required dispensing amount, product dimensions, dispensing path, desired cycle time, and daily production volume.
These parameters determine the appropriate metering system, material feeding method, valve configuration, working area, dispensing speed, and automation level.
